Weymouth is an old historic town that offers visitors a beautiful scenic bay with fantastic views and a busy harbour with fishing boats, yachts and the Condor ferry port..
The beach at Weymouth is ideal for all ages. Very safe bathing with attractions located on the beach including Punch 'n'Judy, carousel, Helter Skelter and trampolines. Kind George III was a royal visitor in 1789. He was here to treat a nervous disorder by submerging himself in the seawater and people have been flocking here to bathe ever since. There is, in the hillside across the bay his memorial of King George on a horse carved in the rock face. Weymouth has it's own very picturesque bay and extremely safe beach. Chesil Beach, is 18 miles long with 180 billion pebbles and it stretches north west from Portland to West Bay. It is separated from the mainland by an area called Fleet lagoon. Both these areas are important for it's wildlife. One very important location is the Swannery which is a natural habitat to many swans and during the hatching season (June) it is a favourite with the children, although, it is worth a visit any time. A place of great escape.
The whole area is a haven for walkers swimmers, divers, bird watchers, boaters, fisherman and all visitors.
Portland is an island off Weymouth joined by one road, it is sailing venue for the 2012 Olympic games. Discover the rich history of Portland's deep sea harbour and Dorset's coastal defence from the Roman Times to the present day. Worth a visit!!
